At KiwiKrete, we’re investigating how to create high-performance concrete using sustainable materials, particularly kina (sea urchin) shells.
Innovation
Our research focuses on developing concrete mixes that replace traditional sand with urchin-derived materials while maintaining or improving strength and curing properties.
MVPs
We have developed two MVPs: a 30 MPa mortar product and a 50 MPa concrete product, which together cover the vast majority of concrete products in the market.
Carbon Footprint
Our research shows that the carbon footprint is potentially reduced by 50%–80% compared to normal concrete.
Prototyping
We are also prototyping other products, focusing on urban furniture, decorative concrete products with different surfaces and colors.
